"Running Your Weapon Light" A 2 Day Workshop

Course Overview

This comprehensive 2-day course is designed to equip students with the skills and confidence needed to effectively utilize a weapon-mounted pistol light in low-light and no-light conditions. It emphasizes practical techniques and strategies that are essential for real-world applications, ensuring safety, precision, and tactical readiness. 


Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will have developed the technical skills and mental preparedness needed to confidently handle their weapon in challenging lighting conditions. This course is ideal for those seeking to enhance their self-defense capabilities or improve their proficiency in low-light shooting scenarios.

Equipment Required

  • Pistol with attactched light
  • Minimum of 300 rounds of ammunition
  • 2 magazines (minimum)
  • Holster (IWB/OWB)
  • Magazine pouch(es)
  • Eye and ear protection
  • Appropriate range attire

Day 1: In the classroom

 The first day takes place in a controlled classroom environment, focusing on dryfire exercises and foundational skills. 

Key topics include:

  • Light Activation Techniques: Mastering the proper use of your weapon-mounted light, including when and how to engage or disengage it during a scenario.
  • Target Identification: Learning how to effectively distinguish between threats and non-threats in low-light environments.
  • Movement Strategies: Practicing safe and strategic movement in dimly lit spaces, balancing light use with concealment to maintain the tactical advantage.
    This session also covers the principles of situational awareness and the legal considerations of low-light engagements, ensuring students are prepared for responsible firearm use.

Day 2: on the Range

  The second day shifts to the outdoor or indoor live-fire range, where students put their classroom training into action under real-world conditions.

Activities include:

  • Low-Light Drills: Practicing shooting techniques with the weapon-mounted light, focusing on accuracy and control in dim settings.
  • Realistic Scenarios: Engaging in situational drills designed to simulate potential encounters, such as navigating through a dark space, responding to sudden threats, and making split-second decisions.
  • Confidence Building: Refining the balance between speed and precision, ensuring students leave with enhanced skills and a solid understanding of how to operate effectively in low-light situations.
